Shoulder combo exercise

This is a combo movement I came up with about 15 years ago that combines a side lateral raise with external rotation of the arm.


The side lateral raise primarily works the medial and anterior deltoid (side and front shoulder) as well as the traps and supraspinatus. The external rotators of the shoulder work the external rotator cuff muscles the infraspinatus, supraspinatus and teres minor.


I like this movement as it kills 2 birds with one stone. The only downside is the shoulders can start fatigue out before the external rotators because they are getting fatigued isometrically by holding the upper arm up throughout the movement.
