Training external rotators for a balanced physique

Training the external rotators with my client Justin. As I posted on Friday, this is an area that tends to be very underdeveloped in many people. Their pecs, anterior delts (front shoulders) and internal rotators (subscapularis) tend to be much more developed and much stronger than their external rotators (infraspinatus and teres minor as well as the supraspinatus) and scapulae retractors (rhomboids, mid trap muscles). This creates a muscle imbalance and structural imbalance. That imbalance can lead to a plateau in a workout or even an injury. I’ve seen guys benching 300 lbs that struggle doing an elbow on knee external rotation exercise with a 5 lb dumbbell for 10 to 12 reps in strict form. That’s a significant imbalance. I know they aren’t always flashy and the sexy exercises so to speak but adding in corrective exercises like external rotation movements and exercises are important to a well rounded physique, achieving maximal progress in your training program and staying injury free. #fitnesstraining #fitness #trainingroutine #fitnesscoach #fitnesstrainer #personaltraining #personaltrainer #strengthandconditioning #strengthcoach #exercise #exercisetips #fitnesstips #fitnesstip #exercises #externalrotators #externalrotation #teresminor #infraspinatus #rotatorcuff #correctiveexercises #correctiveexercise #lasvegas #lasvegaspersonaltrainer #gymtrainer #muscleimbalance #muscle #workout
